Congratulations to Drennan Team England for the team Gold, to Didier Delannoy from France the individual gold, Steve Hemingray for individual silver and Alan Scotthorne for bronze.
Well what a fantastic result, few expected the fishing on the Zeranski canal in Poland to stand up to the pressure of seven day’s intensive World Championship fishing, but it did! Roach and Skimmers were the main target species, giving Drennan Team England a fishing match to remember.
Scoring just seven points on the first day with 4 section wins from Sean Ashby, Will Raison, Steve Hemingray and I and Des chipping in with a hard earned third, we were in the driving seat for the second day’s match. Roach provided most of the action apart from in A section where the main species were Skimmers and by the end of Saturday, we felt we could push on to a gold medal.
The second day was not as straight forward with William struggling in a difficult area in A section and Des looking out of it in B section so the nerves were jangling. As the match progressed Des found his rhythm and pulled back to second and William doing well in his area. So a minor blip was averted for us to take the Team Gold medal with relative ease from second place France.
Steve Hem had been our best angler all week and pushed this fact home by taking individual Silver with a two point double section win, beating myself with a weight advantage on the same points leaving me with a very pleasing bronze medal. My good friend Didier Delannoy from France was crowned World Champion with a weight advantage over both myself and Steve, I must say this could not have happened to a nicer guy. Well done Didier!
This result cements Drennan Team England firmly at the top of the World rankings and personally I would like to thank all involved in a great team effort in helping to win what was, I believe, a really technical fishing match.
More details soon…
