Simon Willsmore’s great run of form continues after an impressive win on the River Avon at Evesham last weekend.
His latest victory was a 75-peg Evesham Championship Qualifier from unfancied Peg 84 on the Cricket Club section. Extra rain caused the river to rise by a couple of inches in the space of just half an hour, which seemed to spur the roach shoals into feeding. The England international put his considerable bloodworm skills into full use for an impressive 17lb 6oz catch of roach, 5lb clear of second-placed Ed Warren.
Simon will now be hoping the winning streak continues for the three-day Evesham Angling Festival which takes place this forthcoming Bank Holiday Weekend. The historic event attracts the cream of British match fishing, all competing for a total of over £19,000 in prize money! This is arguably the biggest and best spectator event in the country with a beer tent, stalls, a funfair and lots of other attractions for all the family to enjoy, plus live commentary each day.
The event takes place on Evesham’s Crown and Corporation Meadow. Gates open at 8.30am on Saturday 29th August, Sunday 30th August and Monday August 31st. Parking is just £7 per car, which includes a free programme. Visit www.eveshamfestival.com for more information.
