Harry Wilkinson has booked his place on the prestigious Evesham Festival after a fine display of eel fishing on the Warwickshire Avon.

The match was the Evesham DAA Youth Championship, which sees the winner of the Junior and Intermediate categories earning themselves a place in the popular Bank Holiday weekend festival.

The up-and-coming Drennan Leicester team member has been concentrating on rivers and canals recently to try and work his way into the England U23 squad. Drawn on unfancied Peg 20 on Evesham’s Crown Meadow stretch, Harry fished maggot, chopped worm and caster on the long pole for eels and added some late roach on hemp to weigh a level 9lb.

He used Drennan Supplex hooklength and rig line matched with a strong Super Spade hook to subdue the river’s notoriously tricky eels.
