One Point Costs Bordon A Place In The Final

Drennan Bordon captain, Steve Barnett, reports back from the recent Angling Trust Winter League Semi Final fished at Colemans Cottage in Essex. It was an agonising result as they missed out on qualifying for the Final by a single point!

It was a case of so close but so far for the Bordon army. Despite putting in plenty of effort in the lead up to the big match, it just wasn’t to be!

Local side Wickford made the most of their home advantage to storm through to the final with ease! Also making the final was another local side, Image, along with Delcac who pipped the Drennan lads by a single point to take the last qualifying place!

Bordon team manager Steve Barnett echoed the teams disappointment: “Totally gutted to be honest! To miss out by one point after all the hard work and effort that the team put in is hard to take, but that’s the way it goes as sometimes you don’t always get out what you put in!

“We knew that it was going to be hard to qualify, as the two local teams in Wickford and Image were always going to be hard to beat as they know the venue so well. Plus, a quality side like Delcac made it hard, but we went into it fancying our chances!

“It went down to the wire and didn’t go our way. We will learn from it and go again. A massive well done to Wickford, Image and Delcac. We wish them well in the final!”
