Fly fishing for pike is very much an underrated tactic when you think of pike fishing but its definitely becoming increasingly popular, but is it any surprise given the number of huge fish falling to the tactic.
This 34lb 8oz pike is the most recent and was caught from Blagdon Lake by Tom Leslie, owner of fishing and shooting shop, Fin and Game. Targeting a shallow bay just off a deeper area, Tom cast big orange and white flies to the area and as it landed, the fish hit the fly just on the edge of a drop off, he saw it roll over and right away knew it was big. In the shallow water it went on some very powerful runs, and as it neared the boat it he guessed it was an upper twenty. But when in the net, it was clearly far larger, and at nearly 35lb, it obliterates the 7lb PB he started the day with.
Well done Tom!
