It’s time to sort your Spring Tench tackle out! The wind is finally changing, with the “Beast from the East” finally set to return whence it came! Temperatures are set to creep up from this weekend on, and we’re expecting to see a few fish caught…
So, check your rods & line guides for damage, re-spool your reels, check your feeder stocks, hooklength materials, suitable hooks, artificial maggots & casters – and anything else you can think of!
Drennan’s Ian Brooker took this fine early-season photo last Spring, a vividly coloured gravel pit fish outwitted with an Oval Blockend feeder filled with red maggots. Ian sets this up Helicopter style, making it perfect for use over lightly weeded bottoms as well as clean gravel. He uses an ESP Camo Brown Chod Rig Sleeve above the feeder clip to both disguise and tidy everything up, plus further eliminate any risk of tangling. The particular rig shown used a short 6lb Flurocarbon hooklink positioned just above the feeder and trapped with the aid of a pair of Grippa Stops.
