Drennan Oxford’s winning streak continues after taking home the Thames Championship trophy at the weekend.
The prestigious Thames Championship is one of the longest running competitions in match fishing and this year saw 22 teams of six lining the banks of the famous river from Lechlade through to Rushey.
Oxford took both 1st and 2nd team places but it was Drennan Oxford Yellow that ultimately came out on top with a fantastic 117 points from a possible 132! The team of Tom Hobbs, Steve Harwood, Mick Denton, Steve Townsend, Paul Glenfield and Tony Hobbs used all of their knowledge and experience of the river to take the victory. Mick Denton also put in a captain’s innings and finished third overall with some quality chub for 18lb 14oz.
Team Garbolino’s Ed Warren won the event individually with 26lb 14oz of chub on chopped worm from Clanfield. Local expert Paul Passmore (Devizes MG) was second with a fine 21lb 8oz of small fish on a 3m whip and maggot.
Team Result:
- 1st Drennan Oxford Yellow 117pts
- 2nd Drennan Oxford Blue 94pts
- 3rd Team Garbolino 89pts
