Phil Lewis has caught a huge megrim sole, weighing 2lb 14oz, using our Drennan Fluorescent Shock Leader as part of his setup.
The fish is believed to be the first ever megrim to be caught in the Bristol Channel.
The specimen fish was caught 20 miles west of Lundy on the AlyKat Too boat, skippered by Dave Roberts. On his impressive capture, 68-year-old Phil from Mangotsfield, South Gloucestershire, commented:
“I am a member of West Coast & Watchet SAC, which is a member club of the Bristol Channel Federation Of Sea Anglers. This fish was weighed on match scales at Windmill Fishery.
“I used a Penn INXS 419 uptide rod, ABU Ambassadeur reel loaded with Ultima Red Ice 20lb line to Drennan Fluorescent Shock Leader, with a Mustad Sealite trace baited with frozen squid. We were in about 200 feet of water so it took me around two and a half minutes to get the fish to the surface.
