Drennan’s Stewart Moss was pleased to have a recent river barbel session interrupted by this interesting looking carp, which weighed 21lb 6oz and was almost a true ‘Leather’.

The fish came an hour or so after dark during a period when the river was up-and-coloured, taking a legered CC Moore’s Meteor Boilie hair-rigged to a size 9 Kamasan Barbel Maxx hook on a 15lb ESP Two Tone hooklink.

The fish put up a really long, dogged battle in the increased flow – before finally succumbing to the landing net, quite a titanic scrap on a Martin Bowler Specialist Barbel 12ft 1.75lb rod!

The design team at Drennan spent a lot of time and effort liaising with Martin Bowler in order to get the spec of the barbel rods just right. We reckon they’ve got these rods just about perfect – and Stew is certainly a fan!
