After enduring a difficult winter, Steve Wilkinson’s persistence paid off in spectacular style with this 8lb 9oz chub.
It was taken from the River Kennet on a piece of link legered bread flake, fished alongside liquidised feed. He found the river running up and coloured so baited a few likely looking swims and fished them in rotation, using touch leger tactics. In an area with an inviting crease, Steve felt a few rattles across his finger before his rod hooped over.Striking, he connected with a fish that fought well in the current, trying to take him into every snag in the area. Once in the net, he knew it was far bigger than anything else he’d landed, feeling in ‘total disbelief’ when he saw the number on the scales.
Well done Steve!
