Late season is usually when the biggest chub are caught, but we’ve seen a few huge fish already reported this season. This 7lb 14oz specimen caught by Steve Tomlin is one of the latest, with the specimen coming from the Hampshire Avon’s Royalty fishery.
Steve was targeting a deep hole where he’d had six other fish the week before. The maggot feeder was his tactic of choice, as he wanted to feed something other than meat and pellets, which the fishery sees a lot of. On the hook, he opted for a dendrobaena worm as a ‘stand-out’ hookbait, which also helped him avoid the minnows. When he hooked the fish, he initially wondered if he’d connected with one of the venue’s famous barbel but was blown away when he saw the size of the chub after steering it through the weed.
Well done Steve!
