Some anglers hate fishing in fog, but it didn’t deter Steve Gibbons on a recent roach fishing trip, where he landed this long 3lb 8dr specimen.
He was fishing a Norfolk stillwater using and went down the fishmeal baits route, using a 12mm boilie hookbait. It’s proven winner for big redfins on venues that see lots of carp anglers’ bait, and Stephen fished it on a helicopter rig incorporating a groundbait feeder over an area where he’d fed a kilo of boilies plus pellets matching the flavour of his hookbait.
Having hooked the fish it gave a dogged fight, going on a handful of runs at the net, his soft 1lb test curve rod did it’s job and enabled Stephen to slip the net under what he describes as an ‘unbelievable’ fish.
Well done Stephen!
