Over the last four years, Steve Dawe has had his sights on a 3lb grayling. He’s spent most of his time on the Frome, landing fish to 2lb 13oz, but he was recently given the opportunity to fish the River Kennet..
..where he landed not only this fish of 3lb 1oz, but also back up specimens of 2lb 15oz, 2lb 10oz, and 2lb 8oz.After driving three hours from his home in Devon he was met with temperatures of -4C in what he describes as a ‘classic grayling morning’. The first hour of his day was spent without a bite, but when Steve moved to a different run he hooked and landed the three-pounder – his first fish of the day. It fell to trotted maggots on a size 16 hook, fished below a dumpy Avon-style float.
