This summer, current Drennan Cup holder Simon Daley has been obsessed with eels, and after a run of blanks, he landed this 6lb 1oz personal best.
Targeting southern gravel pits, he’s struggled after landing a fish of 5lb 7oz a few months back but the challenge of targeting these notoriously tricky fish has kept him going. With perfect conditions rolling in recently, with low pressure and rain, Simon moved to a new area he fancied and following advice from a mate, used an ultra-low resistance Dyson Rig with a lobworm hookbait fished over a pint of dead maggot. He presented this just over the marginal shelf, two rod-lengths out, in 13ft of water.
Well done Simon!
