Returning home after seeing some family, current Drennan Cup holder, Simon Daley, headed straight for the Hampshire Avon, knowing it’d had an injection of extra water whilst he’d been away.
But on arrival, he found it up and the colour of hot chocolate, far from ideal for his intended target, big roach. After a few unsuccessful hours fishing, he decided to tease his float round the marginal cover where flow was slow, at least giving the fish a chance to see the bait.
Two hours later, the float dipped, and he connected with what looked like a huge roach. It rolled in the edge, and Simon was relieved to finally get it in the net. At 2lb 10oz, Simon was delighted with the fish on a tricky day. It fell to a 10mm bread punch fished alongside liquidised feed below a light bolo float with a very sensitive tip.
