Durham specialist Simon Ashton has sent us a final report on the end of his Winter Pike campaign, which was capped by this new personal best of 22lb 2oz!
The big Pike was caught up on a large, popped-up Herring fished close to an island at long range. Simon had located a weed bed in around 25 feet of water, and positioned his bait around 10 yards from the feature.
Looking back at his diaries, Simon’s Lake District Pike trips yielded 14 ‘doubles’ and the one ‘twenty’ – and he reports not one lost fish or missed bite.
“I fished my super powerful E-Sox Piker Bait Rods with baby pit reels loaded with 18lb line fished through to 5oz inline leads. I used a large sunken float set at 3/4 depth to keep my line free from the rocks and snags. 30lb E-Sox Super Trace Pike Wire was used with size 4 semi barbed trebles” explained Simon.
