After finishing work a little early, Sam Stewart shot to the Warwickshire Avon where he was rewarded with the fish of a lifetime in the shape of this 19lb barbel.
Having found the Avon up slightly and carrying decent colour, he headed to a swim that he had in mind but found somebody else there. Undeterred, he walked to a spot he hadn’t fished before and cast out a 15mm Robin Red pellet alongside a small PVA bag of 6mms of the same flavour.
The first hour of his session passed without a touch, so he recast with a fresh hookbait. It wasn’t long before he had a few signs, and soon after his rod hammered over. He lifted into a fish that flat-rodded him, and after a 15-minute battle, the large barbel rolled over his net. When the needle of his scales rolled around to 19lb, Sam couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
Well done Sam!
