Rui Pedro landed himself a new personal best barbel in the shape of this impressive 17lb 10oz barbel recently from the tidal River Trent.

Rui tols us “this was quite a long session for me, it was actually my longest session ever in the UK. It can be quite hard work preparing for such a long river session but on the “Trent, it only takes one fish to make it all worthwhile.

The session didn’t start off as I had planned as I didn’t arrive at the river until quite late, heavy rain meant the river was rising throughout my session so I ended up moving several times during the course of the 5 days encountering several obstacles along the way.

I ended the session on a massive high with this stunning 17lb 7oz barbel caught on superglued casters fished on the hair. During the 5 days I landed several barbel ranging from 5lb+ to the 17lb’er along with a few bream for good measure.”
