The River Severn is best known for its barbel, but there are a few superb chub kicking about too, as venue expert Roger Carswell proved when he landed this 7lb 10oz fish
Roger has had mixed results lately and admits to arriving at the river with little enthusiasm. He expected sport to be hard and was proven right after only managing a few small barbel on pellets and boilies. But a change to a double lobworm hookbait brought a turn in his fortune. Chucking downstream, close to the bank, it wasn’t long before he had a few delicate indications on the tip – which he knew were from an investigative chub – before he had a positive pull round. Roger struck into something solid, which he dragged through sunken vegetation to the waiting net. Weighing in at 7lb 10oz, Roger was honoured to land such a rare fish from the river.
Well done Roger!
