When the rivers are bursting their banks, few anglers would think to target perch, especially not on lures, but Robert Onicala proved the tactic’s versatility with this 4lb 10oz specimen.
The 33-year-old Bedford angler was targeting spots new to him on the Great Ouse. He found some slack water and spent time combing it over, making regular changes to his lures and rigs over the short afternoon session. As is often the case, it was a tried and trusted pattern that produced his fish, with a Z-Man TRD lure fished on a NED rig tempting it. These patterns – which are fished slowly along the riverbed – are cold-water favourites of Robert.
Well done Robert!
