Robbie Northman 30lb 4oz Pike

The Norfolk Broads system is one of the UK’s most famous waterways for pike, and Robbie Northman showed just why with this 30lb 4oz beast, which he caught on the fly!
He’s had his sights on a fly-caught river ‘thirty’ this winter and had come close on a recent trip with a 122cm fish that fell just short of the mark. Whilst this specimen was slightly shorter at 118cm, it’d clearly been hard on the feed! Robbie has had success on musky-style flies, with this falling to a large jack pike imitation cast on an 11wt saltwater rod.

On this session, he’d landed a low double before being slack lined a few hundred yards further downriver. Rapidly stripping line to regain contact, Robbie set the hook into a fish that was almost under the boat. It made a few powerful runs before battling under the boat. Robbie’s heavy rod did the trick though, and he eventually had the huge fish resting in the net.

Well done Robbie!
