Lee Chatfield recently spent a day targeting big roach and grayling on a stretch of the River Test.
This roach was the biggest of the day, tipping the scales around to 1lb 12oz. The roach were caught using sweetcorn. “Red sweetcorn gives you that extra option, and is a great change bait when maggot is not allowed,” explained Lee.
Lee used his 15ft Drennan Matchpro Ultralight with a simple float setup to search any likely looking swims. The all-important extra length of the 15ft Matchpro Ultralight provides much improved line and float control at distance. This allows you to keep more line off the water, to control a float better when trotting at long range and to pick up line more effectively on the strike.
