Well-respected flowing water specialist, Paul Glenfield, got amongst the bream in the first midweek match of the season on the Warwickshire Avon at Evesham.
Sixty eight anglers lined the historic stretch of river and with a tinge of extra colour and a healthy pace there were some decent weights throughout.
The Drennan Oxford river ace made no mistakes from end Peg 1 at the top of the Crown Meadow to catch three quality bream and around 5lb of smaller skimmers and perch on chopped worm tactics. He rotated between 5m, 11m and 16m swims to keep fish coming, fishing a 2g round-bodied float and a piece of dendrabaena worm on the hook.
In second place was Welsh rod, Paul Johnson, who drew the opposite end peg to the winner, Peg 87, right outside the Cricket Club. Paul caught most of his fish on waggler and maggot tactics, taking a good bream, chub, and a host of smaller fish.
In third place was top all-rounder, Darren Davies. Drawn on Peg 52, the Drennan ace alternated between a big stick, a 14m eel swim with a 8g flat float and a whopping 18 metres of pole with a light 4×10 strung-out rig with maggots. His hard-earned catch included chub, eels, perch and a few smaller silver fish.
Paul Glenfield’s win secures him a place in the Wychavon Championship Final for the popular August Bank Holiday Festival weekend.
