It’s safe to say we all have those moments where nothing to be going our way, and things don’t pan out the way we’d like, well that’s exactly what Phil White has experienced this season, but his efforts have finally come good with this 17lb 8oz Hampshire Avon barbel.
He’d had what he describes as a ‘terrible season’ and admits that doubts were starting to creep in about his approach. But on a recent trip to the Avon, he managed to get in the swim he wanted and introduced minimal feed, with just a PVA bag of free offerings presented alongside his boilie hookbait.
His session was drawing to a close when he had a few delicate taps on the rod tip, which he thought were caused by a chub. However he lifted into a heavy fish that didn’t roar off, but steadily ploughed around in the flow. Phil hadn’t fully grasped the size of the fish until he lifted it onto the mat, and was delighted to see his scales indicate that he’d landed a new PB.
Well done Phil!
