“I hit into what I thought was a small chub that snagged me solid”
Lifelong angler Phil White recently landed one of the biggest ever braces of barbel from the Hampshire Avon, banking this 16lb 9oz fish alongside one of 15lb 7oz.
It’s fair to say that the banks were busy, with nearly 20 anglers about that evening. Phil didn’t let this bother him as he cast out after dark. Not long after he received a strange indication on the tip, where the rod bounced twice, moved forward a foot, then stopped, he waited 20 minutes before recasting. Shortly after, he received a similar bite, but this time hit into what he thought was a small chub that snagged him solid.
But with steady pressure, the fish came free, and after a spirited battle he was surprised by the size of the fish on the surface. At 16lb 9oz, Phil was delighted, but just half an hour later he had another, more normal, bite and banked the 15lb 7oz fish. He puts all his success down to Klips Boilies, designed by his friend Paul Potter. Phil has total confidence in these baits that he says are unlike anything he’s ever used.
Well done Phil!
