Thank you to Paul McLoughlin from the Republic of Ireland for sending this photo of his new Drennan Acolyte Ultra 14ft & Centrepin reel!
Paul has been using the rod to great effect on the River Inny in County Westmeath and sent us the following report:-
“I am a sucker for special float roads and I have just added the 14ft Acolyte to my collection of rods which include a few Normarks and Daiwa Spectron M2’s. I would like to compliment Drennan on another fine rod. I used the 14ft for the first time yesterday and had a bag of around 100 small perch and dace. It handled the small bits beautifully with a nice tippy action.
However today I got a chance to get on my local river here in Ireland, and it was here it really shined with most of the roach going to around 1 lb in a fast flow. The rod bent right around on these wonderful fish and it really came into its own when I got fish under the rod tip. Roach in particular like to nod furiously under the rod tip and the rod handled each of the lunges with ease – akin to the elastic of a pole.
I’ve been asked by several people “What is the best float rod you have ever owned?” – this is a hard one to answer considering some of the classics in my stable! But the Acolyte is certainly the lightest and the softest – but what they forget is, we are comparing a rod that is half the price of the ones we are comparing it to. It stands tall in this company.
I’ve just ordered the 13ft from my tackle dealer to keep the 14ft company!
Well done…”
