Drennan’s Midlands Sales Agent Paul Dolman is a very keen & experienced
Salmon angler, and he used his weekend to travel up to Scotland recently, to
fish the River Tay in Perthshire at a location called Islamouth. Paul took
a few fish including this beautiful ‘Springer’ – that is a fish which has
newly returned from the Sea and is travelling up river to spawn.
Paul’s been using the ESP Sightline Polarised Glasses (you can see them on a
lanyard around his neck) – which he rates as absolutely unbelievably good,
massively improving visibility into the water. He fooled the Salmon into
taking a big, colourful fly called a ‘Cascade Pot Belly Pig’ – presented on
an ESP Ghost 15lb Tippet. For those that know their Salmon gear, Paul was
using a Hardy 15ft MK2 Swift Fly rod, with a Hardy Sovereign reel, filled
Windcutter line with a super fast poly tip. Paul remarked the fish put up a
really memorable scrap, and it was actually snowing when he first hooked it!
Fluorocarbon hooklengths are very effective in almost all disciplines of the
sport – for details on the Drennan Fluorocarbon hooklength material, click
