Congratulations to this year’s Drennan Thames Festival Champion, Paul Passmore!
The 2014 Drennan Thames Festival saw 62 anglers competing over three days on the Thames at Abingdon, Medley and Culham. Despite low and clear conditions, the river performed extremely well with silver fish nets dominating and only the odd better bream and tench figuring in catches.
Even with the pegs being fished for three consecutive days, double-figure catches were still required to win each section.
Overall champion, Paul Passmore, posted three extremely consistent results to be crowned a worthy champion. His 5-point total was equalled by Neil Richards but his 44lb 15oz total weight was just enough to take the trophy.
Mark Lindsay and last year’s champion, Simon Willsmore, were a point behind on 6 points while Sam Merry was 5th with 7 points.
“It’s been another very successful festival and it’s fished well overall when you consider how difficult the conditions have been,” commented Dave Harrell, top river angler and one of the festival competitors. “Match organiser Paul Glenfield and daughter Rachel have done a fantastic job all week and a sincere thank you goes to them from all the competitors. A big thank you also goes to sponsor Drennan International. If you’ve missed out on last year and this year, try to get in on next year’s list as this festival continues to go from strength to strength,” he added.
