Young Ollie Jenkinson, aged 14, from Bedfordshire has been enjoying some amazing success on his local rivers this summer – with a succession of quality Barbel and Chub!
Using stealth and patience, Ollie was able to sight fish and get some fish feeding in the clear water at close range. He opted for a simple presentation of a large chunk of Spam on a size 6 Super Specialist hook to 10lb mainline, with just a couple of swan shot to anchor it in the right part of the swim. After losing an initial Chub, Ollie got the bait back in position and watched a large Barbel approach and take the bait!
“After a long hard fight I got the barbel in the net – 11lb 5oz, a new personal best”! Subsequently a 4lb 8oz Chub came to the net, a fine brace.
Just days later the same strategy worked again, this time Ollie bagging a specimen Chub on the meat, weighing a tremendous 6lb 8oz, and then another Barbel, of 7lb 14oz.
Well done Ollie, tremendous results!
Ollie tells us he uses a trusty FD 4000 reel for nearly all his fishing now – for full details on this reel click here.
