Neill Stephen’s Specimen Grayling on Super Spades

We love the amazing colours on this specimen Grayling, which weighed 2lb 10oz – caught by 2010-11 Drennan Cup winner Neill Stephen.   Now that’s what you call a Dorsal fin!

Neill was using one of the Drennan Floatmaster 13ft/15ft Combo rods, and also hooked a double figure Salmon during the same trip to a Southern Chalk stream.  He kindly sent us the following feedback on the Super Spades to Nylon:-

I have to sing the praises of the Super Spade hooks to Nylon for specimen fish. I have put them through some very demanding situations, from holding big chub back from snags, to landing Wensum barbel from a powerful weir pool in full flow. However last weekend they really surpassed themselves by beating a surprise fresh double figure salmon in under 5 minutes from the River Frome whilst trotting red maggot for grayling. Whilst it is regrettable to hook migratory fish on coarse gear as they need their energy for spawning, I was able to give this fish an incredible amount of stick in what was a very fast flowing river to get it in as quickly as possible. I expected the hook to straighten or the link to break, but I got it in quicker than I would have expected on a salmon rod!
