Leeds, Yorkshire specimen angler Mike Hunter has been enjoying some superb barbel fishing on the River Swale, and has kindly sent us some super photos of some of his most recent captures.
Fishing on various stretches, Mike has been trying some new boilies ‘the Dubby’ – which he commented have produced a number of ‘three foot twitch’ bites! The three Barbel shown weighed 8lb 5oz, 9lb 8oz and 10lb 3oz – all landed with the aid of a Daiwa Infinity Barbel rod and and ESP Syncro 12lb mainline through to a simple running rig and a 4ft coated braid hooklength to a size 10 Drennan Super Specialist Barbel hook. Mike pins the hooklength down with Tungsten Putty, and adds a mesh bag of crushed boilies and pellets to the hookbait for attraction – most fish coming around the critical dusk period.
Mike is fishing on for a really big Yorkshire Barbel this season… (watch this space!) and uses a Super Specialist Twistlock Handle to land the fish, for details click here.
