Roger Marlow braved the conditions to win the latest midweek open contest at Leicestershire’s Lakeview Fishery with an impressive 72lb bag of carp and F1s.

The England Veteran and Drennan Leicester team man caught all of his fish on red maggot at six and 11 metres.

A fine 0.08mm Double Strength hooklength matched to a size 22 Silverfish Maggot was chosen to present single and double red maggot hook baits. On a tough, wintery day he also opted for a slim AS3 pole float in 0.2g and 0.3g sizes. This design is an excellent choice  for winter carp, as the relatively fine 1.2mm hollow bristle can be ‘dotted down’ to a pimple, to help spot the shyest of bites.
