Most the big pike we’re sent these days are caught from trout waters, but there are still some beasts living in lesser-known waterways, such as this 39lb 5oz leviathan landed from a scenic Scottish Loch.
It was landed by Michael Lawlor on a session in which he spent a few days on the water but, just 30 minutes after casting out a legered mackerel, he connected with what he knew right away was a good fish. Michael didn’t expect the specimen to be quite so large, initially believing that it was a good ‘twenty’. However, once in the net he knew it was a ‘thirty’, having landed fish over that landmark before. At 39lb 5oz, it’s a new PB which, in his words, ‘got the adrenaline going’.
Well done Michael!
