“With the nights drawing in, Matthew turned his attention to the redfins on a local gravel pit”
Roach certainly don’t come much better looking than this 3lb 4oz beauty landed by Cotswolds angler, Matthew Wood. With the nights drawing in, Matthew turned his attention to the redfins of a local gravel pit and targeted the lake over a few short evening sessions after finishing work at nearby tackle shop, Tackle Den.
Having landed a fish of 1lb on his first trip, he had the confidence to return, and over the next two evenings he managed a string of roach, weighing 2lb 4oz, 2lb 10oz, 3lb 1oz, as well as the 3lb 4oz beast. The biggest did all its fighting under the rod tip, leaving Matthew with a racing heart and shaking hands. It’s a new PB and fell to maggot feeder rigs fished heli-style at range.
