One of the great joys of lure fishing is the quick-hit nature of the fishing it can offer, be it an hour or 2 early morning or possibly after work. Effort certainly equals rewards and that’s exactly what happened for Matthew Dunnell on his lunch hour when he banked this 4lb 8oz river perch.
He was fishing in blazing sun, conditions many woudn’t like but as he’s had success in such conditions over winter, he was confident. Using a small black shad, he cast to a large underwater feature and dragged his lure slowly across the deck, stirring the silt as it went. He soon laned a pair of two-pounders before hooking something that made his rod buckle and his clutch scream. As the fish neared the bank he felt its powerful head shakes, and when he saw the size of it, he didn’t waste any time in netting his new PB.
Well done Matthew!
