During a social session on the tidal Trent, Worksop angler Matthew Ball landed this immense 7lb 15oz chub, smashing his PB by some distance. After enjoying a BBQ and lots of laughs with a few friends, Matthew headed back to his peg at around 10:30pm, introduced some bait and got the rods out.
Landing a small barbel in the early hours of the morning, he fished the following day without a touch so decided to give the swim a good hit of bait, introducing a mixture of pellet and boilie before leaving the swim to rest for a few hours. Casting out again at 11pm, the tip of Matthew’s rod gently tapped a few times and he struck into what felt like a bream. However, when he popped the head torch on the fish dove deep, and after a quick scrap this huge chub lay in the net.
Weighing 7lb 15oz, Matthew couldn’t believe his luck with the fish that topped his weekend. A boilie fished on a 3ft braided hooklink below a 5oz lead on a run rig was the successful setup.
