Over recent years, fly fishing for pike has certainly shot through the roof in popularity, and it’s easy to see why, when fish like this 34lb beast can be caught on the tactic.
It was landed my Martyn Cattermole from Chew Valley Lake – the nation’s premier venue for the species. Using a silver fly, he’d caught 11 fish by 1:30pm but none were over 7lb, so he moved to an area known to produce large fish at this time of year.
Martyn soon hooked a better fish that unfortunately came off before connecting with another one that made powerful lunges, taking line, before surfacing and leaving him in awe.
Well done Martyn!
