Anglers generally see pole fishing as match man’s tactic but don’t write it off when it comes to specimen fishing.
Pole fishing allows you to not only feed very accurately but also gives you the ability to present your baited rig very effectively. Whether that be on a lake or flowing river, the pole gives you complete control.
My biggest ever perch weighing 5lb 4oz which was caught during filming for Catching The Impossible is a perfect example. By positioning myself on a seatbox and fishing the pole across to a submerged tree it allowed me to lay my flat float rig into position accurately and edge the rig down into position perfectly amongst the branches. And, due to the extra water and flow it allowed me to fish extremely sensitively when otherwise impossible with a rod and line.
