Drennan Consultant Martin Bowler caught this superb floodwater Barbel from the swollen Hampshire Avon, in pouring rain!

Martin told the full story of the capture of this fish in his article in last week’s issue of Angling Times. With the river exceptionally high and coloured, Martin used a Drennan Big River Barbel 12ft 2¼lb rod (that he helped design!) to leger a Richworth Xtracta boilie.

With moments to go before pack-up time Martin had actually broken down the handle from his landing net when his rod began bucking in the rest as the barbel took the bait! All was well in the end and this fine specimen of 12lb 15oz was safely landed.

This terrific photo was actually taken in heavy rain, whilst a storm raged – we think Martin did pretty well!
