Mark Woodage is no stranger to big roach, having landed fish to 3lb 14oz in the past from stillwaters.
But he’s recently been targeting the species on the Hampshire Avon and landed this 2lb 14oz specimen – his biggest from running water. It topped a day where he caught numerous redfins, but this one was the largest by some distance. It fell to trotted maggots fished below a stick float on light tackle. In addition, Mark used a centrepin reel – an item of tackle that he says made the catch even more pleasing
