Thank you to Marcin Kantor from Dublin, Ireland for some pictures and feedback on his recently purchased Drennan Acolyte Ultra Float 13ft rod, which he put to use on the River Barrow system. Marcin hails originally from Kraków in Poland.

 “Just wanted to give you my brief opinion of your rod as I believe you did a great job building that piece of kit. I picked up my Drennan Acolyte Ultra Float Rod last week and I was out over the weekend hoping to catch a fish or two on it here in Ireland. Coming from match fishing I haven’t done much stick float fishing in the past, and those few goes I had at it weren’t my best days fishing. Now I know I hadn’t previously had the right tool for the job. Fishing today with the Acolyte was a real pleasure!

 I matched it with a Daiwa TDR reel and 4lb Drennan Supplex line to 0.10mm hooklength and a 2.25gr Drennan Stick float. I finished the day with just over 40lbs of mostly hybrids with the biggest one going to 2lbs 3oz. Every single fish, the rod handled with ease, being very soft and with lots of power at the same time – producing a big smile on its owner’s face.

There was not a single thing I could fault about it! Line control and fish handling was great. Casting accuracy was spot on and I had to cast right under an overhanging tree and tight to reeds. I thought I would have left a few sticks on that tree but they all came back home with me! Seven hours fishing and not the slightest pain in my arm or wrist. Real pleasure! It’s my first Drennan coarse fishing rod, but I have a feeling it will soon be accompanied by more…great job Drennan!”
