Last season we were inundated with reports of huge perch from ‘midlands reservoirs’, and as the leaves start to turn, lure anglers have been dusting off their stillwater kit and heading back out in the hunt for big stripeys.
The first reported this season fell to the rod of Gloucestershire angler Luke Jordan, who fished in bright and flat calm conditions but managed to tempt this immaculate 4lb 10oz fish with a deep-running crankbait. He fished this in 40ft of water, the key to success being to get down to the depths where the predators were lurking. In addition, he and his boat partner also landed zander to 9lb over the two-day trip.
Well done Luke!
