Many thanks to Lithuanian Feeder Fishing Champion Marcius and our friends at Kotas for these tips and advice on feeder fishing!
“Regardless of your age or ability this method of fishing even for just a few hours can catch you great numbers of fish. This is an effective tactic on virtually all commercial fisheries where small Carp, Tench & Bream are most angler’s choice of fish.
My preferred tackle for this method is a rod that can be any length but my choice is a between 9ft-12ft which I like to match up with a reel with a larger spool, something like a Drennan FD3000 or FD4000.
I choose to use the Drennan In-Line Flat Method feeders as they do quite a variety of feeders ranging from 15g-45g in 2 different sizes.
The most commonly used hooklengths are short with either a grain of corn, small boilie or a pellet as hookbait as the presentation is near always perfect meaning your hookbait is in the centre of you groundbait or soft pellets whichever you choose to use.
Hooklengths are normally anything from 0.16mm – 0.20mm (5lb-7lb) thick and up to even 15cm in length sometimes. It is quite thick but it is necessary on some local waters as it’s the weakest point in the system. Sturdy hooks are needed so I choose Drennan Wide Gape Specialist or Drennan Specimen in sizes from 12-8 depending on the hookbait.
It is important to mark your line so you can keep casting to the same spot every time. A old favorite is to use a small bait band around your line then tucked into the line clip so in the event a large fish does start taking line the bait band will then snap of leaving you to play the fish as normal and not have to worry about unclipping the line.
The first touch on your quiver tip may only be from the fish knocking your feeder so be patient and do not rush to strike.
So my advice for your next session is if you have not tried the Drennan Flat Method Feeders then make sure you do! It is very simple and effective.”
