Bedfordshire’s Linda Billington with a monster Catfish from one of her local waters, which somewhat rudely interrupted a Method Feeder fishing session last weekend!
Linda was fishing with a Series 7 Method Feeder 11ft Rod and on the third cast, the feeder tip swept violently round and she hooked something which proceeded to “damn near empty the reel spool” – in fact at one stage at the height of the fight Linda only had a few turns of line left on the reel. We can really appreciate the skill involved in playing the fish, since as well as the light rod, Linda was only using 6lb Double Strength mainline through to a size 16 Drennan Feeder Hook!
After an epic battle, much patience and concentration, Linda had to force the issue to get the huge Catfish into the net – breaking the top section of the rod but successfully netting the fish!
Linda is actually no stranger to specimen Catfish, once landing a 209lb example in Spain (on appropriate tackle!) – which she believes was a record at the time for the largest freshwater fish caught by a lady angler. She reports that this 48lb 4oz ‘tiddler’ was caught on her mum’s birthday, so she has named it “Mary” in her honour!
Thank you Linda for an amazing story and well done!

Linda is actually taking part in a 24hr match at the same venue this coming weekend, so we hope she has as much luck again this time round….
