Most anglers opt for maggots, worms and occasionally corn when targeting grayling, but they can be caught on other baits, as Leo Marriott proved when he landed this memorable brace – weighing 3lb and 2lb 14oz – on bread!

He was fishing a stretch of the River Test near his home where he’s found bread to be a good bait for the species. In his experience, it results in less trout on the bank, and more grayling. On this session, conditions were perfect. The day just bright enough to spot the fish but still sufficiently overcast to avoid putting them on edge.
Having settled in a favoured swim, Leo fished a chubber-style float in the pacey water and, on his very first cast, landed the three-pounder. Whilst he rested that fish in the margins, Leo had a few more trots resulting in another superb fish, this time two ounces lighter.
Well done Leo!
