Lee Amass from Bognor Regis won a first Drennan Award in Angling Times this week, with this photo of a 4lb 13oz Sussex Perch caught on a piece of King Prawn.
The huge Perch is the result of a campaign that has seen Lee steadily improve upon his previous best several times. The fish was fooled with a piece of King Prawn presented on a Kamasan B983 Wide Gape hook, with a Drennan Bloodworm Red Artificial Buoyant Maggot on the shank. This was tied to a 0.12mm Lineaffe Akashi Fluorocarbon hooklength.
“I run the buoyant red maggot up the shank of the hook as a mag-aligner, to mask the hook a bit and also to counterbalance the weight of the hook; I’ve started to do this on my last few perch sessions and noticed my catch rate increase somewhat” Lee told us.
