Dave Harpin managed to win the individual prize in the Evesham Festival Match Fishing Team Championship yesterday, largely thanks to a big bream hooked with seconds to go!
The Drennan Oxford team man kept his nerve and managed to net the decisive fish in extra time. It was caught with flat float and chopped worm tactics, which along with two eels plus some roach and perch on bloodworm gave him a 9lb 13oz winning weight.
That was just enough to edge out yesterday’s winner, Dean Barlow, into 2nd spot. Dean unbelievably found himself back on the very same peg that he won the Wychavon Championship off the day before and once again caught over 9lb of roach.
Kamasan Starlets topped the 14 teams of five event with 62 points while Daiwa Dorking and Drennan Barnsley Blacks both tied on 55; Dorking claiming 2nd spot on weight countback.
