Big still waters can certainly throw up some fantastic perch fishing at this time of year, as all-rounder Karl Bird discovered on a trip to Huntingdon’s Grafham Water..
He landed five perch, the biggest this 4lb 8oz fish, which he backed up with fish of 4lb 6oz, 4lb 5oz, plus two big ‘threes’. All the four-pounders came in the last 45 minutes of the session when he switched to a deep-diving crankbait. Since childhood, Karl dreamed of a four-pound perch, and said that landing three in quick succession ‘blew his mind’!
