At times, to catch special fish, you have to brave the worst conditions, and that’s exactly what Justin Stoddart did to land this 17lb 14oz zander.

The Nottinghamshire sat in heavy rain and strong winds by the powerful tidal Trent, but with river levels ideal, he fancied his chances of a ‘zed’, a species the venue has a reputation for. Using a roach deadbait on a John Sidley rig, Justin had a confident bite and hooked straight into a big fish.
With the rain pounding off his back, he felt it ‘bump’ a few times, as a zander would, but due to the weight of it, he thought it must’ve been a pike. As he guided it to the net, he realised it was a massive zander, and says seeing a fish of such proportions was unbelievable.
Well done Justin!
