Northampton Specimen Group member Jamie Cartwright won a weekly Drennan Award in Angling Times last week for this 4lb 9oz stunner of a Perch, beautifully photographed!

Jamie used a Series 7 Specialist Avon/Quiver 12ft 1.25lb rod with a 1.5oz slow taper glass tip fitted, to link leger a Lobworm using 5lb Supplex line straight through, fished over a bed of red maggot & broken Lobs.

After roving around various swims and working hard, and contending with lots of Signal Crayfish activity, Jamie was relieved to end a run of blanks with this the only fish of the day.

“I decided to twitch the worm back a foot or so and the big un nailed it as I took my hand off the rod!” explained Jamie. “It wasn’t a great fight but when it came up under the rod tip I was quite pleased about that as I could see my entire hook hanging in by the tiniest strand of flesh imaginable!!”
